Dobermann

Relatively new dog, obtained in Germany around 1860. Very spread not only in Europe, it is appreciated by his class and elegance. It can say, without doubt, that he is one of the most beautiful dogs between all the races. Adiestrable with facility, can become an implacable defender of the master and his house. Some films have given to a distorted image of this race, exaggerating their violent aspects and ignoring their remarkable dowries of balance and affability.

Some French cinófilos affirmed that this race has origin in the Shepherd of the Beauce which indeed it is resembled. Nevertheless the thesis of the Germans seems more likely according to who the Dobermann, would have been born of the crossovers of diverse races like the German Shepherd (ancestor of the present ones), the Black and So, English Terrier, the Braco de Weimar and the Rottweiler.

The denomination of Dobermann would derive from the name homónimo of its first creator, a modest collector of taxes of Turingia, although the fixation of the race is nevertheless builds of another called criador Otto Goller. The first Dobermann was still quite coarse. Recently towards the first years of our century it has been arrived, through later selections, to the formation of a dog of great elegance but at the same time of great power and resistance. Its diffusion in Germany is carried out of very fast way and soon it extended by all Europe. In the present time, it is known and appreciated anywhere in the world and it is not anything rare to see a Dobermann, absolute winner between all the races, in many canine exhibitions.

The Dobermann is a dog of medium size with a strong and muscular but at the same time very elegant structure. The raised one to the cross for the males, is of 68-70 centimeters although today, mainly in Germany - its country of origin and in the United States tends to raise much more high dogs. The head is extended, with form of truncated cone, lean and with the affluent skin adhered to the bones. The snout must be well strong, with a jaw of good power. The skull is enough as much lateral plane as superior and the lines skull-facia them must perfectly be parallel to each other. The eyes, of made oval form, must be quite dark being very important the expression, that it does not have to seem shady or worse still uncertain. The ears, of very high insertion, are cut to give a raised form them. The neck is long, lean and muscular. The previous extremities must appear well vertical with metatarso little inclined.

The trunk must have a cross very pronounced, a developed in length, width and depth and appear very short and gathered affluent thorax, as much as so that the dog can ideally register in a perfect square. The tail is cut in the first days of life, leaving one, two or three vertebrae.

The layer presents/displays a fine skin, well adherent to all the parts of the body, with smooth and short hair. Three recognized varieties of color exist: black, brown and blue, always accompanied by zones red-rusts well noticeable and clean (spots fire).

Training. The education and therefore the training, must be based on the smoothness and the firmness, never in the violence nor in the terror. One is due to beat to him and it is never precise, mainly, to restrain any possible excess to him of useless aggressiveness or ferocidad. Nevertheless some examples, rare lucky people, of fanatical proprietors - that is to say, of people who only love a ferocious dog they have given to this race an absolutely false and deformante image.

It is possible to say more for this race than for any other, that the character of the dog depends fundamentally and directly on the master and the lessons that can to provide to him. Obstinate by nature and equipped with a remarkable personality and character, encariña much with its master and his family distrusting itself of any stranger. Equipped with a great facility for the learning it assimilates all the lessons quickly, becoming a safe guardian for its proprietor.

Height and weight. Raised to the cross of 68 to 70 cm. for the males and of 63 to 67 cm. for the females. Weight between 20 and 26 kg.

Head. Vista of profile and from above, is similar a long truncated cone. The skin completely is adhered to the bones. Black Trufa, affluent long snout with stretched lips that are united perfectly. The skull is flat and the superior profile of the head is formed by two parallel lines (nasal bone and frontal bone) interrupted in front of the eyes with light stop.

Eyes. Made oval, of medium size and very dark color. The dogs with mantón brown, can present/display them clearer.

Ears. Of very high insertion, the dog takes them raised. They are cut in end.

Neck. Length in relation to the head, muscular tidbit and, its line this harmoniously bent in the nape of the neck.

Previous extremities. Perfectly straight, the bone of the chimney almost forms a right angle with the shoulder, well inclined length and. The joint of the elbow, formed by the union of the forearm with the chimney, completely is adhered to the body.

Body. Back very hard. Cross very marked, mainly in the males. This determines, by means of its height and its length, the inclination of the line of the back towards grupa. Cleared but not sunk Grupa. Ribs slightly bent that arrive below the joint of the elbow. Quite wide chest that excels forwards. Belly remarkably dissuaded upwards

Later extremities. Quite wide thighs and of strong musculatura that approximately forms with the knee an angle of 130º. Corvejones robust, parallel to each other and forming an obtuse angle widely with the bones of metatarso that are perpendicular to the ground.

Feet. Short and closed with fingers bent upwards (cat feet).

Tail. Cut by first, second or third vertebra.

Coat. Short, dense, hard and Smooth, perfectly adherent. Black, brown color dark or blue with spots fire.

FEEDING. The caloric necessities of this race are of 1.500/1.600 kcal. Daily. In his diet it must consider of which the Dobermann, because of its very nervous temperament, tends to consume many energies.

DAILY CARES. The layer of short hair of the Dobermann requires few cares but anyway it does not have to be neglected: the use of a soft brush or better still of the glove is advisable.

WITH THE VETERINARIAN. As other races of short hair, also the Dobermann, by means of a hereditary mechanism still stranger, can be affected by a particular type of scabies caused by a parasite, the Demodex Canis, that settles in the pilosos follicles and it pronounces with escamaciones and pustules that seriously injure the skin of the dog. The precocious diagnosis, is very important for this affection since it varies according to the gravity, corresponding to the Veterinarian to establish it in each case.

During the first months of life, the Dobermann can be affected by a vertebral deformation that incapacitates partially to the later extremities preventing itself to make its normal functions. This injury, located generally between the villa and seventh cervical vertebra, is put in evidence through the x-ray. The therapy that gives better results is the surgical one, preceded of a period during which the dog is maintained in rest and put under one glucocorticoid base cures. The cut of the ears (prohibited in some countries, it is only made for aesthetic reasons, does not have another utility) must make preferably between the 80 and 90 days of life, age in which already well is defined the characteristics of the head. An anomalous, exclusive behavior of the Dobermann, consists of biting the flank during long hours without causing injuries
