Transmission of tapeworms by fleas
The fleas play a necessary role in the biological cycle of a tapeworm.
The adult form of the Dipylidium tapeworm caninum lives in the intestine on dogs and cats. The parasite is constituted by multiple segments, in a while given the last segments (proglótidos) filled with eggs are eliminated the outside by the fecal matter, in parched means and frees eggs contained in its interior, the larvae of fleas can ingest these eggs and the tapeworm evolves to an immature form in the flea, when a dog or cat eats the flea (is normal when they are cleaned or they tried to eliminate the parasite that produces prurito to them (picazón), the immature form of the tapeworm is developed towards the adult form, this way the biological cycle is completed.
The tapeworm does not infect itself directly between dogs or cats, must live part on their evolution in the flea, is due to deal to the animal with an antiparasitic one that eliminates the tapeworms, but the problem of the flea is not controlled, run the risk of reinfestar itself again.
The dogs with other types of tapeworms in which the larval form of the parasite can be in rodents, pigs or fish, instead of the fleas can become infected. One more a description detailed to see tapeworms.
