Pediculosis
These parasites have greater winter activity and prefer the animals with greater density of hair.
They are provided with a buccal apparatus able to suck the blood through the skin as in the case of Linognatus piliferus (sucking), determining serious irritations or even, like in the Mallophagos (masticadores), that cause, through a devastating action on the hairs and harmful on the skin, picazón and epidérmica descamación. Parasites incapable consider themselves to live remote on their hospedante.
This parasitism is commonest where there are great populations of dogs or cats, generally, it affects young animals that come from deposits or places where there are many animals.
The louse eggs (liendres) can be adhered to the base of the hairs.
The passage from a dog to another one takes place by direct bonding or through combs, brushes, etc.
The sintomatología varies according to the infection degree. Generally, they consist of picazón, fallen of the hair, epidérmica descamación, induced abrasions and, in the puppies, state of anemia.
The diagnosis is made with a kind examination of the coat and the skin that, allows to establish the presence of lice.
The treatment includes immersion baths or the application on the back of the animal of a pipette of action prolonged with excellent results. In the cases of serious infection, tricotomía and irrigation or baths with parasiticidas liquids.
The prevention is made in periodic form with disinfection of brushes, combs, perreras, boxes, etc.
